Study identifies and characterizes alkaloids from Litsea costalis, indicating potential medicinal uses.
This study reports the identification and structural elucidation of these compounds from the bark of Litsea costalis (family Lauraceae). This identification, carried out by one-dimensional and two-dimensional NMR analyses, makes Litsea costalis a well-known medicinal plant in tropical and subtropical regions. Three notable alkaloids were isolated and characterized from the leaf extract of this plant. The compounds identified in the alkaloid chemistry are N- methyllorothanine, and (+)-norboldine and (+)-lorothanine. The DPPH antioxidant activity of the compounds measured by the IC50 of the compounds is reported.
