Innovative technique removes inflammatory metallic foreign body from corneal stroma, indicating effective treatment methods.
Corneal foreign bodies (FB) need immediate removal. Approach to remove FB depends upon the type and location of FB. Sand, glass and gravel foreign bodies are inert and do not produce any inflammation in the cornea. However, metallic FBs especially Iron can leave rust in stroma of cornea and whenever possible its removal should be tried as there is a risk of inflammation, delayed healing and infection. We describe a case of small metallic FB embedded in the corneal stroma, successfully removed with visco-expression technique.
