The paper objective. Speed limiters are widely used in all branches of general and specialized engineering. The analysis of modern technical solutions based on a patent search helped to find out that the main disadvantages of existing braking devices are the complexity of their design and low reliability during operation. Research methods are based on a systematic analysis of the problem based on the materials of the patent search for modern technical solutions, the main provisions of theoretical mechanics and machine parts. The novelty of the work. A fundamentally new structure of a centrifugal speed limiter is developed, dependencies are found out for evaluating the characteristics of its parameters and operation, which make it possible to evaluate its operational characteristics depending on the operating conditions of the mechanism on which the proposed device is installed. Study results. The essence of the study is to substantiate the conditions for conducting experimental studies to verify the obtained device operation parameters. Conclusions. The proposed device makes it possible to eliminate the disadvantages of existing speed limiters by simplifying the design and increasing its reliability.
