Exploratory investigation shows brightness enhancement varies by stimulus wavelength, suggesting color impacts visual perception.
When a dark border is superimposed on an intermittently illuminated field, a region of enhanced brightness will appear to extend from the border into the field. The extent of this region varies with stimulus parameters such as intermittence frequency, pulse/cycle fraction, and stimulus luminance. This paper presents an exploratory investigation of the effect of stimulus wavelength on this visual response. It was found that the general extent of the enhanced region is less for selected spectral regions than for white even when brightnesses are equated subjectively.
