ABSTRACT Chromite spinels gain considerable attention due to their diverse properties and broad range of potential applications. This review focuses on the structure, properties and various synthesis method employed to synthesize these materials, including solid‐state reactions, sol‐gel method, hydrothermal synthesis, coprecipitation method and microwave assisted method of preparation. Additionally, this review explores the wide‐ranging applications of chromite spinels, spanning areas such as catalysis, energy storage (batteries and supercapacitors), magnetic devices, environmental remediation and biomedical applications. Their distinctive magnetic and dielectric properties make them ideal candidates to use in sensors and microwave absorption technologies. Moreover, their mechanical properties and thermal stability make them as promising materials for high‐temperature applications. The understanding of the correlation between spinel structure and its multifunctional properties could make the way for the development of advanced materials for emerging fields like spintronics, energy‐efficient electronics, and cutting‐edge catalysts. This study emphasizes the significance of evaluating the scalability and long‐term performance of chromite spinels to fully realize their potential for practical applications.
