Control over stereogenic centres beyond tetracoordination

ABAnton BudeevCSChristof Sparr

Key Points

  • The aim is to explore higher-order stereogenic centres and their potential in expanding stereochemical space.
  • Reviewed existing literature on stereogenic centres
  • Analyzed the synthesis methods for penta- and hexacoordinate centres
  • Discussed applications of these centres in various fields.
  • Identified the ability of higher-order centres to encode more than two stereoisomers
  • Showcased various synthesis strategies for these centres
  • Highlighted potential applications in biomedical and material sciences.

Abstract

Higher-order stereogenic centres expand stereochemical space by encoding more than two stereoisomers per unit. This review summarises the stereoisomerism, stereoselective synthesis and applications of penta- and hexacoordinate stereogenic centres.
