Novel inverter design expands voltage range and reduces current harmonics, enhancing performance in power electronics.
The flying-capacitor topology has been widely applied in power electronics. However, this topology is constrained by a limited output voltage range. Although the switched-capacitor technique can boost the maximum AC output voltage, it fails to suppress output current harmonics at low modulation ratios. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel three-level inverter topol-ogy that integrates both switched-capacitor and flying-capacitor techniques. The aim is to simultaneously expand the AC output voltage range and reduce current harmonics at low modulation ratios. To validate the proposed topology, a 400W experimental prototype and simulation platform were developed. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed topology achieves a twofold extension in the AC voltage range while effectively suppressing current harmonic distortion at low modulation ratios.
