A systematic review and meta-analysis were undertaken to understand reported prevalence of injury after sexual assault, demonstrating considerable heterogeneity between papers. A social ecological model is used to examine factors that contribute to this heterogeneity at individual, community, institutional, social and cultural levels. These factors help demonstrate why published papers vary so widely in the reported prevalence of anogenital and general body injury.
