Systematic review investigates the link between body awareness and pain intensity in chronic neck pain, suggesting treatment implications.
Recent scientifc studies emphasize the importance of body perception and body awareness. Body awareness has been reported to be impaired in several chronic pain conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between body awareness and pain intensity in patients with non-specifc chronic neck pain. The PubMed, Cochrane Library and Pedro databases were searched for studies up to July 2024. Each database was searched independently using a specifc replication search sequence. Two studies (one cross-sectional study, one randomized clinical trial) were included in this review. Based on the results of these studies, body awareness appears to be signifcantly associated with pain intensity in patients with chronic neck pain. Therefore, incorporating body awareness training into treatment plans is recommended as a potential mechanism for reducing pain intensity in chronic neck pain.
