Magnetic gradiometry survey over c. 4.5ha with targeted earth resistance survey over 0.3ha. Magnetometry survey was successfully conducted over a total of c. 4.5ha, with of 0.3ha of earth resistance survey also undertaken in the southern part of the site. The magnetometer survey results demonstrate that this technique was very effective in detecting archaeological features across this site, which appear in strong contrast to the relatively 'quiet' natural magnetic background. Two broad foci of settlement were found to be present, extending roughly east-west across the slightly elevated terraces to the north and south of the Little Broughton Beck, with evidence of cultivation remains to the north and south of these. In contrast, no clear evidence for significant archaeological remains was detected in the adjacent field (to the northeast of Chapelgarth). Overall, the magnetic results correlate closely with the earthwork remains evident in LiDAR data, while providing additional detail as to the character of the buried features and previously unidentified features.
