Assessment reveals safety and efficacy of Hostazym C in poultry and piglets, indicating its suitability as a feed additive.
This assessment reviews the safety and efficacy of Hostazym® C, an endo‑1,4‑beta‑glucanase enzyme used as a zootechnical feed additive for poultry and piglets. The Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland evaluated the dossier, supported by previous EFSA conclusions and new data provided by the applicant. The additive was found to be safe for target species, consumers, and the environment, though it should be treated as a potential skin and eye irritant and respiratory sensitiser for users. Evidence indicates that Hostazym® C remains effective as a digestibility enhancer, and its efficacy can be extrapolated to newly proposed species. Analytical methods were confirmed as suitable for official control.
