Exploratory survey reveals cultural preservation strategies in Comoros migrant communities, suggesting support for resilience.
Comoros migrant communities in southern Africa face unique cultural challenges due to their diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. An exploratory survey was conducted with a sample of Comoros migrants residing in southern African countries, employing semi-structured interviews to gather qualitative data. Key themes emerged regarding cultural preservation strategies among migrant families, particularly the importance of intergenerational communication and traditional practices maintenance. A notable finding is the significant role played by local support groups (35% of respondents) in fostering resilience. The survey highlights the necessity for culturally sensitive policies to enhance integration and support community cohesion within Comoros migrant communities. Implementing targeted cultural adaptation programmes alongside existing socio-economic initiatives can foster greater resilience among Comoros migrants.
