The study discusses coal distribution and its geological context in the Siberian province, suggesting climate influences.
Discussed in the paper are regularities in the distribution of coalfields and tectonic, paleogeographic and climatic prerequisites which conditioned Late Paleozoic coal accumulation in the Siberian (Angara) province that comprises the Siberian Platform and its folded frame (Taimyr, Upper Yana, Ob’-Zaisan and Altai-Sayan-Mongolian regions). It is noted that: stratigraphic range of coal in genetically different and remote coal basins is identical; coal accumulation in the SW part of the province has a wider stratigraphic range and higher intensity versus the NE one; zone of the maximum coal accumulation has submeridional position and extends from western Taimyr to western Mongolia. These regularities are consistent with tectonic and paleogeographic evolution, climatic and paleobotanic zonation of the Late Paleozoic Angara continent.
