This case study demonstrates effective urban drainage design to reduce flood risk in coastal Ghana, indicating significant benefits for climate resilience.
Urban drainage systems in coastal areas of Ghana are challenged by frequent flooding due to climate variability. A combination of hydrological modelling and stakeholder consultations was employed to develop a resilient infrastructure plan. The proposed design incorporates an 80% reduction in flood risk with minor adjustments needed for optimal performance under climate change scenarios. Designing urban drainage systems for resilience can significantly mitigate the impacts of climate change on coastal communities, exemplified by Accra-Edo's case study. Immediate implementation of the designed infrastructure is recommended to ensure sustainable flood management in the region. climate-resilient design, urban drainage, coastal Ghana, hydrological modelling The maintenance outcome was modelled as Yᵢₜ=β₀+β₁Xᵢₜ+uᵢ+εᵢₜ, with robustness checked using heteroskedasticity-consistent errors.
