Conclusions: A moderate association was found between academic performance and preclinical skills in prevention of dental diseases with propaedeutic of pediatric dentistry. During classes, students` skills in finishing of composite restorations need to be improved, also students need more practice and feedback from the teacher at fissure sealing.
