Replication study evaluates cost-effectiveness in off-grid systems, suggesting improved understanding of performance factors.
The original study evaluated cost-effectiveness in off-grid communities systems in Ghana using multilevel regression analysis. The replication study employs a multilevel regression model to analyse data from off-grid communities systems in Ghana. The statistical model is specified as: Yᵢⱼ = eta₀ + eta₁Xᵢⱼ + b₀ⱼ + b₁ⱼZⱼ + uᵢⱼ, where b₀ⱼ, b₁ⱼ represent random effects for community and socio-economic factors respectively. Uncertainty in the estimates is quantified using robust standard errors. The replicated analysis yields a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.75, indicating that 75% of variance in cost-effectiveness can be explained by model predictors including technology type and community size. The multilevel regression analysis demonstrates significant improvement in understanding the factors influencing off-grid systems' performance and cost-efficiency compared to previous studies. Future research should consider expanding data collection to include additional socio-economic variables and utilise longitudinal datasets for more dynamic assessments of system performance over time.
