The objective of the present study is an insight into a seaport system literature before the 2000s. To achieve this objective a bibliometric analysis is conducted. On the one side, the seaport system literature is concentrated on operations research, operation modelling and planning and on the other side it manages many processes including cost-benefit analysis about that. This study is focused on the first one in order to systemize the earliest research effort. The history leading to the development of this framework has passed through a few phases, that way a seaport literature becomes a common subject of operations research. As each development period brings a lot of novelties, this makes the review of seaport literature before the 2000s more attractive.
