Abstract

In this contribution, we first address the results of the elections thattook place at all levels of government in Belgium. We also discussthe latest amendment in the Belgian Constitution, which enshrinedthe principle of animal welfare, and a memorandum issued by thethree highest Belgian courts indicating their concerns about respectfor the rule of law in Belgium. Next, this article provides an over-view of the main cases of the Belgian Constitutional Court over thepast year that may be of interest to an international audience. Fi-nally, we look ahead to several interesting pending cases, as well asto the major constitutional developments that have been announcedin the coalition agreement by the new federal government.
