The India's Neighbourhood First Policy (NFP) which was made public in 2014 is an important part of its diplomatic strategy in South Asia. It aims to promote peace, stability and prosperity among its immediate neighbors. The paper investigates that how India's NFP has affected its relationship with Sri Lanka in different ways uptill now. Sri Lanka has a unique place in this framework because it is located in a strategic position and also it has a historical, cultural, and economic ties to India. India's goal is to improve regional stability and connectivity by working together on maritime issues, using cultural diplomacy, building infrastructure, and giving economic support. The paper analyzes the important programs that have made it easier for the two countries to work together in such a big developmental aid, defense cooperation agreements, and digital collaboration projects. The study also looks at how India has strategically dealt with problems like ethnic reconciliation, Sri Lanka's internal politics, and China's growing power in the Indian Ocean. India's strategy under this policy is based on the values of respect, communication, peace, and prosperity. The goal is to create a rules-based regional order that encourages mutual development. This study demonstrates that India's assertive foreign policy under the NFP continues to influence and redefine its alliance with Sri Lanka, fostering regional stability and coherence across South Asia.
