An error is corrected in the graphical comparison of the high-energy tail derived by Gaffey J. Plasma Phys. 16, 149–169 (1976) with our previous results Phys. Plasmas 31, 042509 (2024). The corrected plot shows that the two results are in good agreement within the relevant energy range, which is also demonstrated analytically. This plotting error does not affect the main conclusions of the previous paper.
