Excavation observes absence of archaeological features in a cable trench installation in Powick, indicating minimal historical disturbance.
Excavation of the foundation trenches was undertaken using a tracked mechanical excavator under archaeological supervision. Excavations comprised a single cable trench crossing the lawn between the garage to the east of the house and the paddock to the west in which the solar panels will be installed. The cable within the paddock will be over ground and installation of the panels will not require groundworks. Context recording was undertaken using context sheets and other pro-forma recording sheets and photographs were taken with a Nikon D3200 SLR camera. Plans and sections of trenches and features were drawn on permatrace at 1:10 and 1:50 scales. Recording was hampered to some degree by rising groundwater and heavy rain, however it is considered that, despite this, conditions were sufficient to allow contexts to be recognised. Following excavation, all context sheets were checked and cross referenced. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded in the watching brief.
