Abstract

The adoption of renewable energy technologies in developing countries like Sierra Leone has been limited compared to developed nations such as Lesotho. The methodology involves a comparative analysis of data collected in Sierra Leonean villages and Lesotho, utilising econometric models to assess the economic impacts. Renewable energy kiosks have demonstrated an adoption rate of approximately 30% in selected Sierra Leonean villages, indicating moderate interest but room for improvement. The findings suggest that incentives and awareness programmes are crucial for increasing technological adoption rates among rural populations. Government policies should prioritise the establishment of renewable energy kiosks coupled with targeted education campaigns to enhance uptake in Sierra Leonean villages.
