Researchers demonstrate selective gallium extraction in bauxite using a novel method, highlighting promising benefits for industrial supply chains.
This paper presents a novel approach to selective gallium extraction from bauxite ore using Resonant Augmented Hydrothermal Leaching (RAHL). The method exploits Debye temperature-dependent lattice softening to enhance the selectivity and efficiency of gallium separation from aluminum-rich matrices. By applying Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR)-induced field effects (Emporie), the process achieves targeted destabilization of gallium-bearing mineral phases under hydrothermal conditions. The theoretical framework combines solid-state physics principles — specifically phonon softening near the Debye temperature — with hydrometallurgical leaching chemistry. Experimental validation parameters, predicted extraction yields, and the selectivity advantages over conventional acid leaching are discussed. This work proposes a new pathway for critical raw material recovery with potential relevance for industrial gallium supply chains.
