Cerebral vascular malformations (CVMs) are lesions characterized by abnormal vasculature in the brain, which include brain arteriovenous malformations (bAVMs) and cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs). The majority of CVMs are caused by somatic genetic variants. Genetic testing for somatic variants requires invasive surgery to collect affected tissue, which is still one of the main treatments for CVMs. Genetic information that can be used for potential therapeutic agents may not be relevant for patients after surgery.
