Abstract

The DESI Data Release 2 (March 2025) reports a 2. 8–4. 2σ preference for time-varying dark energy with a phantom crossing at z ≈ 0. 5. No single minimally-coupled scalar field can produce w < -1. ΛCDM is excluded. This paper shows that the Spektre coherence metric K (t) = ρ · I_Φ · F (t) is inherently a three-component multiplicative field whose coupling produces phantom crossing naturally through cross-terms in the effective equation of state — without phantom fields, modified gravity, or exotic physics. Five results: (1) the DESI thawing relation wₐ = -3 (1+w₀) is satisfied to 0. 6%; (2) the phantom crossing at z ≈ 0. 5 corresponds to H (z) = H₀ to 0. 6% — we are at the coherence transition now; (3) observer selection predicts maximum observer density near the transition epoch; (4) the Hartle-Hawking initial condition F (t=0) = 1 corresponds to frozen coherence; (5) dark energy is the kinetic energy of coherence thawing.
