  • Introduced a theoretical framework for the hysteric-dramatic position.
  • Examined manifestations in adult sexuality and relational dynamics.
  • Analyzed somatic symptoms as indicators of relational experiences.
  • Identified the hysteric-dramatic position as a defense against invisibility.
  • Found correlations between early maternal care and adult performance-driven existence.
  • Revealed clinical potential for transforming dramatic excess into reciprocal recognition.

Abstract

This paper introduces the "Hysteric-Dramatic Position" as a dynamic regulatory mechanism within the Narcissistic Spectrum, distinct from fixed personality disorders. The author defines this position as a defense against psychic erasure and shame, where the subject’s existence depends on provoking emotional intensity and leaving a "trace" in the gaze of the Other. Exploring its roots in early narcissistic maternal care—where existence was often tied to performance—the study examines how this position manifests in adult sexuality, relational cycles of idealization, and somatic "indications". Unlike the psychotic position's fear of annihilation, the hysteric-dramatic position fears the void of invisibility. By analyzing the somatic impact (palpitations, fatigue, or "spectacular" collapses) as a language of relationship, the paper provides a framework for clinical transformation: moving from dramatized excess to a calmer, "depressively mature" reciprocal recognition.
