Two recent decisions at Indiana University about student media have garnered a fair amount of media attention beyond Indiana. The decisions have also raised legal issues. The attention follows a university decision to stop funding printed versions of student media and a separate decision to end the employment of a student media advisor. As reported, the university ended the print edition of the student newspaper because of financial constraints. Regarding the student media advisor, the university hasn’t commented, but a publicly available termination letter indicates the university found that the employee wasn’t working in alignment with the university's direction concerning print frequency.
