Emulated target trial demonstrates reduced risk of schizophrenia in adolescents treated with doxycycline, indicating a promising therapeutic avenue.
A study using an emulated target trial design has found a reduced long‐term risk of a diagnosis of schizophrenia in adolescents who had received psychiatric treatment and had incidentally also received treatment with the broad‐spectrum tetracycline antibiotic doxycycline. Risk of schizophrenia at 10 years was significantly lower in individuals who had taken doxycycline compared with those receiving other antibiotics.
