Conference paper investigates dielectric and optical properties of rice starch films, suggesting technological applications.
This conference paper titled “Dielectric and Optical Investigation of Anisotropic Structural Alignment in Rice Starch” was presented at the International Conference on Advanced Functional Materials and Devices (AFMD‑2023) held in 2023. The study investigates the optical and electrical properties of bio-liquid rice starch films prepared by boiling rice starch in distilled water at temperatures between 130–160 °C. Thin and thick films were fabricated by drying the liquid on flat and slanted substrates to analyze structural alignment and anisotropic characteristics. Dielectric spectroscopy was employed to examine dielectric relaxation processes associated with ionic and dipolar contributions from ions and biomolecules. The results indicate that film orientation significantly influences ionic and dipolar dispersion processes. Optical investigations further revealed variations in transmission through the films, including birefringence effects associated with anisotropic molecular alignment. Although the paper was selected for conference proceedings consideration, it was not submitted for the final publication process. The manuscript is shared here to facilitate academic dissemination and discussion of biomolecule-based functional films and their potential technological applications.
