Energy analysis compares a new geothermal system's cooling efficiency in Algeria, suggesting improved performance metrics.
This research proposes a novel combined power/refrigeration cycle GORC–EERC/DIHX powered by geothermal energy to generate cooling in Algeria, where temperatures vary from 60°C to 95°C. An energy analysis has been conducted to examine and compare the performance metrics, including the overall coefficient of performance (COP oval ), the working fluid mass flow rate per kW of cooling capacity (MkW), the compression ratio (CMR) across the compressor unit, the expansion ratio ( EPR ) across the turbine, and the cooling capacity () of the proposed system against the standard combined system GORC–VCRC. A parametric study is conducted to demonstrate the impact of operating temperatures on system performance. The results indicate that when the boiler temperature attains 95°C, the proposed GORC–EERC/DIHX system demonstrates enhancements of 5.81%, 12.20%, and 5.81% in COP oval , MkW, and , respectively, relative to the conventional combined system.
