YIYuta IzumiThe University of TokyoTTToru TeradaThe University of TokyoAIAkiko IidaThe University of Tokyo

Key Points

  • This research investigates the distribution and area changes of homestead woodlands in Tokyo suburban areas since the postwar period.
  • Analyzed multiple years of aerial photographs to assess woodland distribution and area changes.
  • Conducted logistic regression analysis to examine factors contributing to woodland conversion.
  • Focused on the areas of Nerima and the former Hoya City.
  • Homestead woodlands decreased by approximately 20% in number and 10% in area since the postwar period.
  • Smaller woodlands tended to disappear while larger woodlands experienced area reductions.
  • Distance from the nearest station significantly influenced the likelihood of woodland disappearance before 1989.
