Postmortem examination reveals aortic onchocercosis with significant histopathological findings in cattle, indicating serious implications for livestock health.
AbstractOnchocerca armillata is a nematode parasite of the aorta of ruminants. Carcass of a crossbred cow was presented to postmortem with the history of prolonged recumbency. The postmortem examination revealed thickening and corrugations on the wall of the aorta, whereas histopathological examination revealed the thickened tunica media, tunnels containing parasites, calcified areas, and cut sections of worms both live and dead. Based on gross and histopathology, the case was confirmed as aortic onchocercosis.
