Review explores taxonomy and phylogeny of Deshurleyella in New Zealand, revealing a new species and its distribution.
The taxonomy, morphology and distribution of the endemic makawid genus Deshurleyella Lowry, Myers & Nakano, 2019 is reviewed, and a new species, Deshurleyella tuuake sp. nov., is described. The phylogeny of the genus is investigated by integrative taxonomy. With five described species, Deshurleyella is the most species‐rich makawid genus currently known in New Zealand. The genus has so far only been recorded from the Auckland and Northland regions of the northern North Island. Two species, including D. tuuake sp. nov., exhibit relatively broad distributions spanning both regions, whereas the remaining three species have highly restricted ranges, each confined to a single ecological district within Northland. Diagnostic characters and a key to the five currently recognised species of Deshurleyella are provided.
