ABSTRACT Three paraboloid ground planes integrated with an X‐band monofilar helix operating in axial mode to demonstrate pattern shaping. The antenna assembly is modular with interchangeable ground planes used to achieve different far‐field goals. To enable low‐cost prototyping, all modules are designed to be 3D printed and electroplated. The simulations are validated with well‐agreeing measurements, and the performance is compared to the commonly used cone ground plane. Improvements with respect to bandwidth and directivity are also discussed. The unique radiation patterns enabled by the paraboloid ground planes are explored, and general guidelines for performance vs. focal point location are established. Each assembled module demonstrates quality impedance match and main beam axial ratio over the entirety of X‐Band.
