This article analyzes, from a theoretical perspective, how social media has changed the dynamics of the circulation of architectural images and how these influence users’ conception of aesthetics, aspirations, and emotions. It argues that the Architectural Design Model (adm) has not been updated to consider the constant exposure to digital trends and how these can generate new symbolic and functional expectations in users. The need to update the adm requires building a solid theoretical framework that allows for the connection between emotional design and human-centered design (hcd). Therefore, this article proposes articulating this thinking through critical reflection. The objective is to demonstrate the potential of social media to serve as sources of information that allow us to understand users’ symbolic and emotional needs, thereby generating contemporary design processes that respond to current cultural demands.
