This analysis uncovers cultural encounters and social determinants of Serbian identity in Vienna, highlighting their shared memory.
This paper analyzes selected texts of Vukosava Mišić and Todor Stefanović Vilovski on the life of the Serbian community in Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, through their personal insights into the ambivalent identity of Vienna, as a site of both conflict and encounters of different cultures. The analysis introduces social determinants (gender, class, political affiliation) of the two authors, chosen here as bearers of memory of a shared reality and a common past.
