Case analysis reveals CNS involvement and hallucinations in a 15-year-old male with autism spectrum disorder, suggesting complexities in treating Rosai-Dorfman-Destombes disease.
Rosai-Dorfman-Destombes disease (RDD), or sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy, is a rare histiocytic disorder. We report a unique case of a 15-year-old male with history of high functioning autism spectrum disorder who presented with aggressive behavior and hallucinations, where imaging showed an intracranial mass and a bony lytic lesion in the right femur. Biopsy of the brain mass showed S100-positive histiocytes and emperipolesis, confirming the diagnosis of RDD. The patient was treated with steroids for his RDD and showed clinical and radiological improvement.
