Lithium fluorinated salts serve as the core component of lithium-ion batteries in the energy industry. Conventional synthesis methods typically utilize HF as the fluorinating agent, which poses potential safety risks and environmental hazards. However, with the development of the Element Transfer Reaction (ETR) theory, a breakthrough in synthesizing lithium fluorinated salts from fluorspar (CaF2), bypassing HF, was achieved and reported in 2019. This innovation not only represents a pivotal advancement in green fluorine chemistry but also serves as a reliable cornerstone to underpin the green, sustainable development of the energy industry. This review covers the latest advances in this field and presents a corresponding perspective.
