Observational analysis reveals solar flare dynamics in relation to magnetic field interactions, suggesting underlying reconnection mechanisms.
We study a solar flare in relation to an elongated narrow region of open magnetic fields (narrow coronal corridor; NCC). Both the flare SOL2013-03-15T05:46 of class M1.1 and the neighbouring NCC are shown to involve quasi-separatrix layers (QSLs) of strong gradients of connectivity of squashed field lines. Since QSLs promote reconnection of magnetic field lines, we recognize there the potential for triggering the eruptions. A set of extreme ultraviolet images from the AIA instrument onboard the Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO) also implies long-lasting events of magnetic reconnection in the post-flare arcade and a coronal dimming accompanying the CME. We discuss application of the density-driven mechanism for explaining magnetic reconnection in QSLs and the plasma release at the boundary between the closed and open magnetic field structures.
