Committee reports recommended revisions in research and publication, suggesting analytical techniques for financial problems.
During 1961, a sub-committee of the Executive Committee studied the problems before the American Accounting Association in making the most effective utilization of its resources in stimulating research or in providing adequate channels for the publication of the results of research. The Committee prepared a report which recommended substantial changes in the research and publication policies of the Association. The recommendations contained in this report were adopted by the Executive Committee at its winter meeting in December, 1961, and become effective in 1962. This article focuses on the principal features of that report. The report recommended it to be one of primary tasks of the association to suggest the appropriate solutions to the troublesome problems with which accounting must be prepared to deal--Firstly the development of analytical, recording, and communication techniques and practices, which may be appropriate to aid in the solution of the financial problems of an enterprise and secondly the development of concepts by means of which there may be adequate periodic reporting upon the financial results of enterprise operation and upon the financial condition of an enterprise.
