Since the enactment of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG) in August 2022, Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences have been able to obtain a subject-specific right to award doctorates. A prerequisite is the demonstration of appropriate research strength, evidenced by professorial members and their third-party funded projects, as well as publications. The Doctoral Centre for Digital Technologies and their Application (DigiTech) was applied for by the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, and Landshut University of Applied Sciences in the spring of 2023 and approved in September 2023. DigiTech combines technology- and application-oriented research to address societal, economic, and ecological challenges. As of January 2026, DigiTech has 41 professorial members and 71 doctoral students. The newly launched series "Proceedings of the Doctoral Colloquium DigiTech" publishes the research outlines required for the structured doctoral process in the form of scientific contributions or short abstracts for the interim reports. The proceedings thus reflect the thematic orientation of the entire doctoral centre.
