Digital financial services (DFS) have become increasingly prevalent in rural areas of Ethiopia, yet uptake among women is often lower compared to men. A comprehensive review of existing literature was conducted using systematic methods including keyword searches in databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus. Studies were selected based on inclusion criteria focusing on DFS adoption rates and associated gender-specific barriers. Despite the high prevalence of mobile phone ownership among rural Ethiopian women (85%), psychological factors such as perceived trustworthiness of service providers (EY|X = eta₀ + eta₁X; confidence interval: 0. 2, 0. 4) and concerns over privacy were significant barriers to adoption. The review highlights the importance of addressing psychological barriers through targeted interventions to improve DFS uptake among rural Ethiopian women. Interventions should focus on building trust between service providers and users, as well as educating about privacy protections offered by DFS services.
