This report characterizes 2 liberty ammunition–branded 9 mm+P bullet variants, civil defense and ultra-light, which utilize an identical lightweight, lead-free, monolithic copper hollow-point projectile, differing solely in cartridge case composition. Upon impact, the projectile undergoes predictable fragmentation, producing multiple secondary wound channels, significant temporary cavitation, and limited penetration depth. Entry wounds are generally consistent with those of conventional projectiles; exit wounds are characteristically absent. Radiographic examination may demonstrate a relatively intact round base accompanied by multiple small radiopaque fragments distributed in a dispersed pattern. At autopsy, recovered fragments are insufficient to reliably differentiate between the two variants unless residual case material adheres to the projectile. Due to their restricted retail distribution, forensic recognition of these bullets, in conjunction with familiarity with specialized sales channels, may provide investigative value in ammunition tracing and purchase history reconstruction.
