Experiment explores the relationship between intolerance of ambiguity and attitude similarity, indicating that ambiguity does not influence attraction effects.
The present experiment was designed to explore the question of whether or not intolerance of ambiguity is a necessary concomittant of the similarity-attraction effect.Thirty two subjects participated in a 2 (two levels of intolerance of ambiguity) X 2 (two levels of attitude similarity) factorial design experiment. With respect to the responses to the I.JS items and the summed measure of attraction, main effects for similarity werc found significant on all items with the exception of morality item.Intolerance of ambiguity has no influence on the basic similarity-attraction relationship.
