The present study was to examine whether resilience could mediate the association between psychological distress and self-efficacy for medication management in older adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2023 to January 2024 in Northern Anhui, China. The structured questionnaires included questions on sociodemographic and clinical data, resilience, psychological distress, and self-efficacy for medication management. A hierarchical multiple regression model and a mediation analysis were performed. A total of 186 older adults joined the study. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that both self-efficacy for medication management and resilience were significant factors associated with psychological distress. The mediation analysis showed that resilience mediated the association between self-efficacy for medication management and psychological distress. This study found that resilience was posited to mediate the association between self-efficacy for medication management and psychological distress among Chinese older adults. Our findings could pave the way for innovative strategies to relieve symptoms of psychological distress through improved self-efficacy for medication management and resilience in this population.
