Does high cardiovascular health reduce the chance of cardiovascular events in adults?
High cardiovascular health, as assessed by the American Heart Association's Life's Essential 7 or 8 metrics, is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular events.
Adds meta-analytic evidence to prior observational data; strengthens case for optimizing Life's Essential 8 in adults.
Cardiovascular health (CVH) refers to the harmonious functioning of the heart and vascular system in the absence of pre-existing clinical pathologies. This concept was structured in 2010 by the American Heart Association, which initially proposed seven metrics for its evaluation, known as Life’s Essential 7 (LE7). Due to its wide acceptance, the model was later updated to Life’s Essential 8 (LE8), which incorporated a new metric (sleep health), thus expanding the assessment of CVH. Currently, CVH metrics and scores are being investigated for their association with the development and prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
