Qualitative analysis reveals strategies to enhance research and innovation at Kenyan universities, suggesting new frameworks for development.
African universities play a crucial role in nurturing intellectual capital within their respective nations, particularly in knowledge production and dissemination. In Kenya, academic institutions contribute significantly to the country's research landscape, yet there is room for improvement in fostering an environment that maximizes this potential. The study employs a qualitative analysis of existing literature on university roles in research, innovation, and education, focusing specifically on Kenya's context. This approach involves synthesizing data from various academic sources to construct a comprehensive theoretical model. The proposed theoretical framework provides a structured approach for African universities to better leverage their resources in fostering intellectual capital within Kenya's academic ecosystem. This can lead to increased research output and innovation, ultimately contributing positively to the country's development goals. Recommendations include encouraging more collaborative research projects, promoting interdisciplinary initiatives, and investing in capacity-building programmes for researchers. These actions are expected to significantly improve knowledge production and dissemination within universities and beyond.
