Côte d'Ivoire's film industry has grown significantly in recent years, attracting both domestic and international attention. However, there is limited research on how gender representation affects public perception and industry dynamics. The study employs a combination of semi-structured interviews with 20 directors and producers, complemented by a content analysis of 50 films released between and . Quantitative data on gender representation is analysed using thematic coding. Analysis revealed that female characters in Côte d'Ivoire's films predominantly appear in supporting roles (76%) compared to male characters (64%), indicating a significant disparity in the distribution of gender across film genres and narratives. The findings suggest that current practices in Côte d'Ivoire's cinema industry favour male protagonists, potentially limiting opportunities for female actors and directors. This study highlights the need for increased representation to achieve more balanced storytelling. Côte d'Ivoire's film industry stakeholders should prioritise gender diversity initiatives within their production processes to foster a more inclusive environment and reflect societal values accurately.
