A novel approach synthesizes aryl ketones from unactivated γ-C(sp3)–H bonds, indicating a breakthrough in metal-free chemistry.
A novel photocatalytic strategy is described for carbonylative difunctionalization of unactivated γ-C(sp3)–H bonds with alkenes. Building on a reductively initiated radical pathway from N–O reagents in combination with a 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) process, this approach enables the synthesis of aryl ketones under metal-free conditions, mitigating competitive β-hydride elimination pathways.
