White paper examines photography's role in social change through collaboration with emerging visual storytellers.
This white paper examines photography as a driver of social transformation, with particular attention to the African creative ecosystem. Drawing on historical case studies, contemporary documentary practice, and programmatic experience working with visual storytellers across more than 25 African countries, it explores how photographers can partner with social causes to amplify impact. The paper further addresses early-career infrastructure, representational ethics, and the structural conditions necessary for African visual storytellers to participate meaningfully in impact-oriented photographic practice. Published by Unpublished Africa, a pan-African platform supporting emerging visual storytellers through exhibitions, research, and creative business development.
